Product Details

This oil painting on canvas, depicts a street scene and beautiful old buildings in the old town (Gamal Stan) in Stockholm.  The church in the background is likely Stor Kyrkan, where Swedish monarchy are baptized, married, etc. The dark, rich colors range from olive green and deep blue to mahogany. The string of lights hung down the middle to the street create a beautiful glow in the middle of the paining and draw your eyes to the middle of this intriguing piece. There is also a gold colored sign hanging from the shop on the right hand-side of the painting that looks like it could belong to a pharmacy or restaurant. The artist signature is not discernible, which isn’t uncommon with older paintings.  The age of the painting is also difficult to discern as the canvas shows light signs of re-stretching, and some of the canvas material on the sides has been trimmed away, but its likely that this painting is from the late 1800’s to early 1900s.

This would be a beautiful addition to a gallery wall in a library or hallway, or anywhere you want to add guests to stop and linger a moment or two.
